Why is it important to map farmer suicides in India?

Welcome to the latest initiative of Whypoll. India's only open government platform. Whypoll built India's first women's safety mobile app and map (whypoll.crowdmap.com) and also created the first political opinion aggregating Twitter feed (@netaspeak).

Disturbed by relentless and unending news of farmer suicides across the country, Whypoll decided to use technology to track these deaths.

The map that you see here is the beginning of our latest initiative to create an ecosystem of using data and mapping to depict the crisis that Indian agriculture faces today. 

Through this daily - yes, there seems to be deaths every single day - updated map, we want all of us to reflect on why so many farmers need to kill themselves. This is our way of saying - these are NOT mere numbers. These are people. Dying. Everyday.
